Description:
Rebuilding Together is a United Way agency which provides assistance for people who own their home but physical limitations or income has made maintenance virtually impossible. Typically these individuals have a disability and/or elderly.
Many people in the community cannot provide themselves with even the basics that others take for granted. Typical home improvements include replacing floors and carpeting, improving plumbing and heating, replacing unsafe electrical wiring and kitchen appliances, installing handicap accessible devices and ramps, painting (exterior and interior), plaster repairs, replacing or repairing drafty windows and doors, and installing smoke and CO2 detectors.
Homeowners must:
Complete an application to determine eligibility
Meet income guidelines
Own/reside in their own home
Have current home insurance
Owe no back taxes
Include older persons, persons with disabilities, or be a low income family
Be unable to do the repairs themselves
Home must be located within 10 miles of Bismarck/Mandan
The majority of the work is performed by volunteers, utilizing donated materials and resources at no cost to the homeowner. Applicants may refer themselves or be referred by an agency, organization, family member, neighbor, church, or others.
To receive an application call 701-221-3232 (leave a name and contact information).
