Description:
Volunteer Lawyers Program - When You Need a Lawyer and Can't Afford One. For information call the toll free number or go to the website and click on "Resources for the Public" and then on "Lawyer Referral Service".
When you contact LRIS, you'll talk with an experienced representative who will listen carefully as you describe your unique situation. Any information you provide will be held in strict confidence. A referral will include an attorney's name, phone number and up to a 30-minute consultation with the attorney in the area of law of your choice and town or country of your choice. The charge for a referral is $30. It will be your responsibility to contact the lawyer to schedule the appointment.
There is no obligation for you to employ the attorney, nor is there any obligation on the part of the attorney to take your case. If the attorney agrees to represent you, it is up to you and the attorney to negotiate fees. The $30 will not cover any legal services or representation beyond the intiial consultation.
The LRIS staff person is not an attorney and cannot give you legal advise. They can only refer you to an attorney. If you have a legal problem, but cannot afford a lawyer, you should contact Legal Services of North Dakota Central at 1-800-634-5263.
