Description:
The 2001 Legislative Assembly created the ND Department of Commerce. The Division of Workforce Development is one of the four divisions within Commerce.
The Workforce Development Division has a legislated role to:
1) Develop and implement the state's talent strategy;
2) Actively monitor local, regional, and national private and public workforce development initiatives; and
3) Develop and implement a statewide intelligence coordination strategy.
In addition, the division provides support to a number of Governor appointed boards and commissions. These boards and commissions are mandated under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and the National and Community Services Act of 1990.
Boards and Commissions include:
North Dakota Workforce Development Council
North Dakota Youth Development Council
North Dakota State Commission on National and Community Service
North Dakota Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
Federal and State funded programs which are administered through the Division of Workforce Development include:
AmeriCorps*State, Internship and Work Experience Expansion (Operation Intern)
Workforce Enhancement Grants
Jobs for American Graduates.
